MEET ALICE TO SERVE ALICE ALICE® are the people who are working, doing everything they can to make ends meet yet struggle to get by here in Hawaii. After the pandemic hit, the estimated percentage of Hawaii's population living at the ALICE threshold increased from 37% to 59%. These households live above the federal poverty line, but are unable to survive minor financial challenges brought about by medical, childcare, or even transportation emergencies. The ALICE initiative aims to lift households by collectively working to increase financial stability & savings and create more access to safe and affordable housing. The movement to help ALICE has grown. In 2022, Aloha United Way and Hawaii Community Foundation have partnered to present the ALICE fund. The ALICE Fund fuels change, innovation and collective action around core issues that no agency or government entity can address alone. It is not a grant, it is a movement that calls for shared goals, metrics, tools, and an unprecedented amount of coordination.
